What Is Gmail Forwarding?

 

The feature really stands for its name. Just like the name says, you can forward your emails to another mail address by turning on this feature. You can also choose if you want to forward all your emails to that certain address or you can choose certain ones. However you like it, it’s totally up to you. Even the attachments of the emails would be forwarded. 

 

How To Turn On This Feature? 

 

To turn on this feature, we’ll use the browser client for Gmail. That way, we can access all the required settings. So it doesn’t really matter what kind of device you’re using. You just need proper browser access. 

 

Step 1- Go to Gmail.com and log into your account. Then under your profile icon, you can see a Gear icon. Click on the icon and a drop-down menu will appear on your screen. Select settings from there. 

 

Step 2- From the settings menu, select the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” section. Click on the option named “Add a forwarding address”.

 

Step 3- A pop-up window will appear where you’ll be asked to type your email address. Type the email address you want all your emails forwarded to. After typing the forwarding email address, click Next. 

 

Step 4- A confirmation window will appear on your screen. Just click Proceed. 

 

Step 5- You’ll get a prompt which would say that a confirmation code has been sent to the email address you typed back then. Now click Ok and switch to the email account you chose for email forwarding. 

 

Step 6- After you switch to that email address, open the email you received from the Gmail team and see the code. Type the code on the required field now. 

 

Step 7- At this point, you’ll notice that email forwarding is disabled by default. Select “Forward a copy of incoming mail” and click “Save Changes” to make it work. 

 

There you go! You just set the forwarding email address. 

 

Now, If you want to stop automatic email forwarding, you can switch to the “Disable forwarding” option whenever you want.

 

If you want to remove the forwarding email address you entered, click on the email address and choose “Remove”.

 

Next Step- You’ll see a pop-up to confirm the removal of the forwarding email address. Click “OK” to confirm and make sure you click “Save Changes” after that. 

 

If you follow the steps accordingly, you are good to go. Now you know how to turn on email forwarding and how to disable it. You also learnt how to remove the email address you entered. 

 

  • Why Should You Turn On This Feature? 

We all use different email addresses for different uses. We enter different email addresses for different purposes. But switching from one account to another just to check the inbox can be bothersome. So to make it easier, this feature was brought up. By enabling email forwarding, you can receive emails from all your different email accounts on one primary email address that you set.

Gmail Forwarding Stopped Working? 

In case you’re forwarding your emails to an ISP or 3rd party email service such as- AOL, Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, etc. the most possible reason can be because the Email server you are forwarding to has started to block the emails or maybe it filters them as spam.

 

The best guarantee that your emails will be delivered is to not forward them to a 3rd party email service. Webmail can access your POP email accounts. It can also be configured to be received on your PC using an Email Software.
